At 4:20 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 1901, there passed away from all pain and suffering one of Clinton's most excellent women--Clarissa Ermina, wife of Charles C. Chancellor, of West Clinton street. The immediate cause of her death was dropsy of the heart, from which she has been a sufferer for many months.
She leaves a family of seven children and a husband, who deeply mourn their loss of a loving mother and an affectionate wife.T
Mrs. Chancellor was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and removed from there to Fort Scott, Kas., where in March, 1878, she was married to C. C. Chancellor. In 1886 they moved to Clinton, where they have resided for a number of years.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. A. Leonard at the family residence at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing friends and relatives. She was about 45 years of age.
Geo. F. Pond, a brother of the deceased; Miss Annie Chancellor and Mrs. William Powers, sisters of Mrs. Chancellor; and Mrs. Powers' daughter, all of Fort Scott, Kansas, were among those who attended the funeral from a distance.
