Paul Scholl served in Company A. 24th Illinois Infantry in the Civil War.

He enlisted at Chicago on June 15, 1861 for 3 years and was mustered into Co. A. 24th IL. Infantry on July 8, 1861 at Alton, IL. He was described as 5' 4-1/2" tall a 25 year old cooper (barrel maker) by trade, born in Rudesheim, Kreutznach, Prussia, with brown hair, blue eyes and dark complexion. His regiment participated in the Battles of Perryville, Stone River, Hoover's Gap, Chickamauga, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, New Hope Church, and Kennesaw Mountain all leading to the Siege and Fall of Atlanta. The regiment was mustered out on expiration of their enlistment on Aug 6, 1864 in Chicago.

Paul had immigrated from Germany in 1854 and in the 1860 census he was living in Chicago with Fred and Isabella Tunnell.

In 1866 Paul married Brabara Feise in Chicago, IL., and in the 1870 census they were living in St John Twp., Lake Co., IN., where he was working as a cooper.

On March 4, 1879 Paul received an Army Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War and following his death his wife Barbara received an Army Widows Pension beginning on Jan 16, 1911.

In the 1880 census of Chicago Paul is listed as a 40 year old Cooper born in Germany in 1840 residing with his wife Barbara 33 also born in Germany and their children: Henry 12, Peter 10, Nicholas 7, Daniel 5, Michael 2 and Mary under 1.

On March 5, 1887 Paul became a naturalized U.S. Citizen by act of the Cook County Court, Chicago, IL.

In the 1900 census of Hyde Park, Chicago, IL. Paul is listed as 65 born Sep 1835 born in Germany married in 1866 to his wife Barbara 53 born Oct 1846 in Germany with their children Philip H 33, Nicholas 26, Daniel 25, Mike 22, Katy 18, and George 15. In the 1910 census Paul is 62 born Germany immigrated in 1854 with Barbara 62 and their children Henry 41, Nickalas 33, David 30, and George 23.

Paul died on April 17, 1889 and was buried at Oakwoods Cemetery.
