She was born on April 2, 1923 in Geary County, Kansas the daughter of John and Marie M. (O’Neill) Ehlers.
Leona worked for the Derby Food Center at Kansas State University and retired in 1988 as a Line Supervisor.
She was united in marriage to Robert L. Porter on Feb. 27, 1945 in Kingfisher, OK. This union was blessed with 2 sons: Anthony and Bill.
Leona loved sewing, crafting quilts and bird watching. Above all, she loved being with her loving family.
Preceeding her in death were her parents; her husband: Robert; 3 brothers: Walter Ehlers, Claus Ehlers, Roland Ehlers and sister: Gloria Salberg.
Survivors include her sons: Anthony L. Porter and his wife Kay of Omaha, NE and Bill R. Porter and his wife Patty of Manhattan, KS; a sister: Marjorie Gustin, Junction City, KS; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday February 20, 2015 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas with Dr. Rev. Wesley Paddock officiating. Interment will follow in the Valley View Memorial Gardens Cemetery east of Manhattan, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday February 19, 2015 at the funeral home.
