James Lucas Barnett is the son of Andrew Jackson Barnett and Louisa Jane Calhoun. James L. Barnett first married Nancy Minerva Bradshaw and had at least four children with her.

He second married Mabel Lucille Ellis October 10, 1928 at Mountain Grove, Wright co., Missouri.

In 1930 James L. and Mabel Barnett were living in Van Buren town, Carter county, Missouri. James rented their home for $10 a month. James was a blacksmith.

James L. Barnett died at the age of 70-9-22 of cancer of the prostate. He was a married farmer at the time of his death. Mabel Barnett of Norwood was the informant on his death record. He died at home in rural Norwood, route 1, Wright county, Missouri.

It is thought that his wife, Mabel Ellis Raney died in Tulare, California.
