Gilbert W. Hancock, 84, of Loganton, died at the Muncy Valley Hospital on Sunday at 9:40 a.m.
Mr. Hancock lived in Loganton since 1930, where he had been principal and science teacher at the Sugar Valley High School from 1930 to 1955. He then taught science until his retirement in 1964.
While at Sugar Valley, he was assistant wrestling coach. Before the wrestling program was initiated, he was a soccer and baseball coach.
Mr. Hancock also was a principal and science teacher at Rebersburg High School for three years where he coached soccer and baseball. He also taught for one year at Morrisdale High School.
Mr. Hancock was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and a 1923 graduate of Penn State. He was a member of Albright United Methodist Church in Loganton. He was director of Nittany Motor Club since 1952 and a justice of the peace in Loganton for 20 years.
Mr. Hancock was a member of the Lock Haven Masons, Williamsport Consistory and Jaffa Shrine of Altoona. He was a Republican committeeman in Loganton for many years. Mr. Hancock served in the U.S. Army ROTC during World War I. He was a member of the American Legion Post 437 in Philipsburg.
Mr. Hancock was born on July 16, 1899, in Runville, Centre County, a son of the late Edward and Katherine Lucas Hancock. On Aug. 20, 1927, he married the former Laura Hayden, who survives.
He is also survived by a son, Charles E. Hancock of Bentlyville; three daughters: Lois Pagel of Berea, Ohio, Susanne Gilbert of Muncy and Nyna Lucas of Bellefonte RD 2; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Millard Hancock of Philipsburg; one sister, Kathleen Runk of Hershey.
Funeral services will be held at the Ramm Funeral Home in Loganton Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ken Loss officiating. Burial will be in the Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 p.m. until time of service.
Masonic services will be held at the funeral home today at 8 p.m.
