Marion Miller was born on October 19, 1804 in Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Her parents were James Miller and Marion Colquhoun. She was married twice. Her first husband was John Provan II (son of John Provan I and Marion Bryce). He was a farmer in Knightswood, Dunbartonshire. They were married on July 8, 1828 in New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire. John (II) died on May 2, 1837 and was buried at the New Kilpatrick Churchyard. Marion had two children from this marriage named John III (a baker in Boston, Massachusetts) and Marion (Mrs. John Stewart of Chicago, Illinois). Then she married Robert Anderson (Son of Robert Anderson and Jean Gray) on November 9, 1839 in New Kilpatrick. Robert was a master baker in Glasgow. He was first married to Margaret Russell and had nine children (only four children named Robert, William, Margaret, and John survived childhood). Marion was a widow again on June 13, 1847. She continued to run her first husband's farm, her 2nd husband's bakery business, raise her children, and raise her step-children. In 1858 she immigrated to the United States and lived with her daughter, Marion (Mrs. John Stewart), in Chicago, Illinois. On May 2, 1893 Marion died there.

Note: Marion (Miller) Provan Anderson is buried with her daughter's family. Her step-son, Robert Anderson, was buried at the Jersey City Cemetery in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey (the plot is in bad shape). Her other step-son, John Anderson, was buried at the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts (see his memorial page).
