Author, Intellectual Leader. Swedish author who made his debut in 1946 with "Camera Obscura" (under pseudonym). His first novel published under his real name, was "Moderna myter" (1949). He had a vast production and was an intellectual leader often involved in the official debate on different issues. In 1966 he was appointed as member of the Swedish Academy for Literature and was its secretary from 1977 to 1986. He left the Academy in 1989 since it didn´t take a public stand against the banning and 'fatwa' of author Salman Rushdie, proclaimed by ayatollah Khomeini in Iran. He received many awards and prizes throughout his career and in year 2000 his memoires "Minnen, bara minnen" (Memories, just memories) was published.
