In about 1786, he married Maria Machado, daughter of Antony and Maria Morales Machado of the Canary Islands.
Benito became a shipbuilder in Mobile, AL but moved to Pensacola in late November 1813. He died in Pensacola when he cut his leg on an adz showing a slave how to it use on ship's timber.
He is buried in St. Michael's Cemetery. His grave was marked by a small iron cross that has disappeared over time. The exact location of his grave is now unknown.
