Professional Boxer. A native of Fayetteville, West Virginia, he is best known for being the first professional boxing opponent of Muhammad Ali, with whom he fought on October 29, 1960. Hunsaker who had both his eyes swollen shut lost the fight to Ali. After the fight Hunsaker said, 'Clay was as fast as lightning... I tried every trick I knew to throw him off balance but he was just too good.' Ali and Hunsaker later became good friends. In his career, Hunsaker was 15-15, and had 7 knockouts, but his career was cut short by a head injury in 1962. Besides being a boxer Hunsaker also served as the police chief of Fayetteville, West Virginia, was active as a Sunday School teacher, and was in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He passed away at the age of 75, from the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. The youngest police chief in the history of West Virginia he was elected into the Law Enforcement Hall of Fame.
