He was predeceased by his first wife and divorced from his second wife. He was the father of 4 children, with an outstanding Family Court arrest warrant for failing to pay child support. About 9:30am on a Saturday, he was driving a Mercedes-Benz that had a broken tail light, when he was pulled over in a routine traffic stop. When he was tasered, he ran away from the police officer who then fatally shot 8 times at the unarmed black man's back. A witness caught the end of the incident on video and 3 days later, the white policeman was charged with murder. A 2 hour funeral service was held on Saturday, 11 April 2015 at W.O.R.D. Ministries with the Rev. George Hamilton officiating, followed by a private burial.
