Paul Lawrence Yancey (1929-2015)

Paul Lawrence Yancey, 85, of Somerset, died April 7, 2015 at his home. Born Nov. 25, 1929 in Somerset, the son of Edward Solomon and Minnie (Smith) Yancey Sr. Preceded in death by parents; brothers: Clarence R., W. Stanley, Edward S. Jr., and James R. Yancey; sisters: Gladys Yancey, Ruth E. Pringle, and Mary Elizabeth Pope-Davis. Survived by wife, the former Rosetta Pickett, to whom he was married 58 years; children: Susan L. Stine and husband Daniel of Shippensburg; Paula A. Yancey and husband Jimmy of Newark, New Jersey; Robin Michael Yancey of Somerset; grandchildren: James, Paul, Jamar and Andrea; sister: Helen M. Wallace of St. Louis, Missouri. Paul is a 1947 graduate of Somerset High School. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the Somerset County Laundry and later as laundry supervisor for the former Somerset State Hospital where he retired. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 554 where he was Judge Advocate; Somerset Military Honor Guard Captain for 15 years. He was a member of Military Order of the Cootie where he was Seam Squirrel of Pup Tent #59; on the grand level he was Officer of the Day and Color Guard Captain and held many other offices on the grand level. He was also a member of First Christian Church. Friends received 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Samuel Draper officiating. Interment Husband Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Somerset County Honor Guard, 139 W. Union St., Somerset, PA 15501. Military graveside rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
