The family of Eunice Pasco Crosby announces that on April 9, 2015, at the age of 91, Eunice passed peacefully from this life. Her daughter, Catherine, and son-in-law, Edwin, were at her side. She was born in New Britain, CT, Sept 21, 1923, a direct descendant of Hugh Pasco, who came from Cornwall, England, in 1670 and settled in Salem, MA. Eunice was the daughter of Clinton and Emma Pasco. Her family was very active at St Mark's Episcopal Church, New Britain, CT. She had five siblings. Her sister, Carol Pasco Radil, of New Britain, survives her. Eunice's first words were "I do it mineself," and that is how she lived her life. She attended Newington High School, Newington, CT, where, in 1941, she graduated as Valedictorian of her class. Not letting age be a barrier to her education, she went on to graduate from Community College of Vermont in 1983. She was married to Donald Crosby from 1942 to 1970. Donald pre-deceased her, and together they had four children. Their family was hit hard by the polio epidemic of 1954, losing their 3-year old, Ricky. Sadly, two other of her children, Robert, and Elizabeth, pre-deceased her later in life. She has one surviving daughter, Catherine Maynard, of Middletown NY. Eunice has always been very proud of her family, and always kept up on all their doings. She has eight grandchildren, and was expecting her tenth great-grandchild. She also has many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, etc. She liked to look to heaven and say to her husband, "Look what we did, Donald!" Independence being important to her, Eunice held a job outside of the home for most of her life. In her youth, she worked as cashier for F. W. Woolworth Company. She went on to work for Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company in Hartford, CT. She worked for "The Phoenix" for 30 years, taking leaves-of-absence only for childbearing. Eunice loved to tell how in that era, leaves for childbearing were mandatory, and how, after one childbirth, her boss came to the house with a bottle of wine and asked her husband if it would be ok for her to return to work. In 1971, her independent streak showed again. She searched the "Male Help Wanted" section of the newspaper, and found her next job with National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier, Vermont. She bought a house in Barre, VT, and, as a single mom, continued working. She stayed with National Life for 17 years, first as Supervisor, Title Section, and later as Associate Policy Forms Director. In January, 1988, Eunice accepted a very generous early-retirement package. An avid gardener, her yard was a showplace of color in the summer, as she tended her garden and battled the moles. Her cookie jar was always full, and there was always a pint of Ben & Jerry's in the freezer for when family and friends stopped by. Among her numerous charitable activities was her volunteer work with Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice. She was also a knitter, creating wonderful clothes for her ever-expanding group of descendants. She knit prayer shawls with the knitter group at Christ Episcopal Church, Montpelier, VT. Eunice was very active in the life of Christ Church. She was the Altar Guild Directress for many years, as well as being involved in all aspects of Church life. There will be a funeral service at Christ Church, 64 State Street, Montpelier, VT, 05602, on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 2:00 PM. Date and time of burial service at Fairview Cemetary, New Britain, CT, to be determined. Contributions can be made to Christ Church Altar Guild.
