Elizabeth was the Daughter of Richard King and Mary Black King of Scarborough. She married her husband Benjamin Jones Porter on 16 Nov 1791 in Scarborough.
Her husband was a Surgeon's Mate, 11th Massachusetts, May 11, 1780; transferred to 10th Massachusetts, January 1, 1781; transferred to 4th Massachusetts, Jun 12 1783, and served to November 3, 1783;
He settled in Scarborough, Maine, in the practice of his profession; several years later removed to Westbrook, Maine; then, about 1790, formed a partnership in an extensive lumbering business in Topsham, Maine, with William King (who later was the first Governor of Maine) under the firm name of King & Porter, which they carried on until 1810, when King removed to Bath, Maine. The disastrous flood of 1814 on the Androscoggin River swept away almost $80,000.00 of Dr. Porter's property, in mills, lumber, and the bridge (of which he was part owner). He was a member of the Governor's Council; was also a member of the Massachusetts Senate from Lincoln County; Fellow and Treasurer of Bowdoin College, 1806-1815; removed to Camden in 1829; was termed 'Esquire'.
Her brother was the first Governor of Maine: William King.
Another brother, Rufus King, signed the Constitution, ran for president, US Senator, Ambassador to Great Britain.
