He married Jette (1847-?) of Kragerø.

Carl Albert Naess (1874-?) aka Albert Naess; Alvilde Marie Magdalene Naess (1875-1933) who married Thorvald Martin Tandberg (1874-1970); and Alfred Naess (1877-1955) the speedskater.

1875 Norway Census:
He was listed as "Christian Andersen Næss" of Grue, born in 1847 and a sergeant. His wife was "Anne Gette Næss" and the children were: "Carl Albert Næss" (1873-?); and "Alvilde Marie Magdalene Næss" (1875-?).

1900 Norway Census:
They were living at Munkedamsveien 41 in Kristiania and they were listed as "Chr. Næss" working as a "Mekaniker v. mek. værkst." a mechanic and "Jette Næss". The children were listed as: "Albert Næss" a "kunst maler (stipendiat)", or an artist on a stipend; and "Alfred Næss" a "murer", or a mason. Alvilde was already living with her husband.
