Attended District school #4 and as he grew older became his father's assistant developing the home farm. In 1900 the year after his father died he became half owner of the property but continued farming his 80 acres along with that of his brother Carl, 80 acres. He kept grade Holstein cattle and was a stock holder in the Downsville Cooperative Creamery. Served 2 terms as town assessor of Red Cedar and 3 years on the board of supervisors. Married at Elk Creek April 4 1902 to Olivia Olson. 5 children, Clara born 1904, Alice born 1905, Odin born 1907, Paul born 1908, Linka born 1911. Members of Little Elk Creek Lutheran church, Thore serving as treasurer.
