Crashed into Cleveland Bay, south-east of Townsville, Australia. Took off from Garbutt Aerodrome, Townsville on a routine flight to Archerfield Aerodrome, Brisbane. Lost both engines 10 minutes into the flight and crashed into the bay. Crew of 4 as well as 23 passengers were killed in the crash.
U.S., Headstone Applications for Military Veterans, 1925-1970, lists his burial location as Saint Josephs cemetery in Yonkers, New York. Form signed for by Samuel Cieslinski of R D 3, Jefferson, New York, on 03/19/1948. Son of Samuel Cieslinski (1883-1957) and Mary P. Sakowicz Cielinski (1887-1968).
U.S., School Yearbooks, 1900-1999, has a photo of Thomas Cieslinski in the 1934 Charles E. Gorton High School, Yonkers, New York, yearbook. Here is the caption under the photo: "Cess" is an enviable fellow who seems never to have a blue moment. His perpetual broad grin and desire to be of help are features of Gorton's corridors.
