US Congressman. He graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1895, and was admitted to the bar that same year. He practiced law beginning in 1896, and was soon appointed assistant prosecuting attorney of his native Chicago. He served in that post from 1897 to 1900. A Democrat, he then entered politics and served Illinois's 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives from 1913 to 1915. He declined to be a candidate for reelection in 1914, and resumed his law practice shortly thereafter. Gorman also served as the Illinois State Attorney from 1920 to 1928, and as a master of chancery for the circuit court from 1930 until his death in January of 1935.
