Lillehei, Katherine Ruth "Kaye" Age 91, of St. Paul, died peacefully at home on November 4, 2012, surrounded by family. Kaye grew up in Minneapolis, graduated from Roosevelt High School and the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. As an RN, she worked at Minneapolis General Hospital (now HCMC), then utilized her degree to become a stewardess with Northwest Airlines. After 4 years of flying, Kaye married C. Walton Lillehei in 1946. She then returned to the U of M School of Nursing and earned a degree in Nursing Education. Kaye worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for over 25 years. She was a talented athlete and enjoyed skating, skiing, golfing, tennis, and tap dancing. Kaye was a lifelong supporter of the University of Minnesota, having helped establish the Lillehei Heart Institute and the Katherine R. and C. Walton Lillehei Endowed Chair in Nursing Leadership. She was a longtime supporter of the American Swedish Institute and her church, Crosstown Covenant. Kaye was preceded in death by her husband, C. Walton; and son, Clark. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberle Loken (Allen); sons, Craig (Beverly) and Kevin (Anne); and daughter-in-law, Beckie (Steve). "Mormor" is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Troy (Deanna), Kari, Kellie, Krista (Luke), Kira, Katherine and Christopher (Jenny); and great- grandchildren, Corey and Emily. Memorial service Friday, November 23, 2 PM at the Lakewood Cemetery Memorial Chapel (Hennepin & 36th St., Mpls). Reception to follow at the American Swedish Institute (2600 Park Ave S., Mpls). Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery
