DEATH OF J. L. CATTERSON--A letter from Danville, California, dated January 22nd, brings information of the death, on that day, of our former fellow-citizen, J. L. Catterson. Mr. Catterson was one of the early settlers here, and was for a long time engaged in different branches of business. We believe he was the first practical tinner in the town. He was active in the organization of several temperance society, and the people now should revere his memory for his efforts thus to early mould the temperance sentiment of our town, which has ever since been one of our characteristics as a people. Mr. Catterson was an earnest and upright member of the Masonic Fraternity, and we believe assisted in organizing the first lodge here; at least, he helped the order in every way in his power, in its early struggles, and we are glad to see that his brethren in the golden State did not forget him. He was buried at Danville with Masonic honors. Some years ago he contracted consumption, and his health, which had always before been very rugged, rapidly declined. His indomitable energy and will kept the disease at bay for long months. When many of us were looking for Catterson to die, from day to day, he would suddenly appear upon our streets and even go to work in his store. He was finally induced to try California to see if his health could not be improved and finally restored in that gentle climate. He went there a year ago last May, and for a time rapidly improved in health. But the disease was too deep-rooted, and death has at last claimed its victim. He was about 38 years of age.

Not sure if this is the right cemetery. A FAG member reported that he searched the cemetery but could not find the grave.
