Michel Thomas Huber, age 83, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Marion, Ohio, died May 6, 2015, at the Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse. Michel was born September 3, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Francis and Caroline “Pat” (Ward) Huber. He was raised in Marion, Ohio, and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Schools until transferring and attending the Culver Military Academy in Indiana. Michel graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1953, president of his class, and obtained a masters degree in communication from Penn in 1960. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Michel served in both South Dakota and Guam. Michel was a news reporter in Portsmouth, Ohio, then returning to the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked in development, as Director of Alumni Relations. Michel was a member of the St. Stanislaus parish in Philadelphia, and formerly of the St. Mary Church in Marion, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Johnson) Huber, whom he married in October of 1988; a son, Thomas Charles Huber; two grandchildren: Anna Livingston Huber and Otto Edward Huber, all of Philadelphia, PA; a sister, Josie (John) Metzger of Moraga, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and former wife, Dorothy (Mitchell) Huber of Devon, PA. Michel was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Michele Huber in 1988; and by two brothers: Thomas Ward Huber and Charles Huber. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, May 9th, at the St. Mary Church, 251 N. Main St., Marion, with Father Thomas Buffer presiding. His family will greet friends for an hour prior to his service. Burial will follow in the Huber section of St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marion. A lunch reception will then be held after at the Marion Country Club. Also, a memorial service will be held in Philadelphia the 2nd week of June, and will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to University of Pennsylvania, for care of the carillon on top of the Sweeten Alumni House, which was originally installed to chime in memory of Michel’s daughter, Michele, who died shortly after her graduation from Penn.
