OBITUARY FOR Dr. RICHARD WATSON GRAVES:

COUNTY DOCTOR DIES AT HOME IN ARLINGTON -- Dr. Richard Watson GRAVES, 85, well-known Dallas County physician, died Thursday (i.e., August 12, 1943) at his home in Arlington (Texas) after a long illness.

Dr. Graves had practiced medicine in Dallas County (Texas) for 56 years. He lived in Lisbon and Dallas until 1909, when he moved to Hutchins (southeast Dallas County, Texas). Ill Health forced him to retire 5 years ago (i.e., 1938), and he had been living with his family, Mr. & Mrs John F. UTTER (i.e., Johann Fridolf UTTER and Anne Lavinia (BUSSEY) GRAVES UTTER, who was Richard Watson GRAVES' daughter-in-law by her 1st marriage to Richard's son Thaddeus Cullen GRAVES, Sr. Johann Fridoff UTTER was her 2nd husband), in Arlington for the past several years.

He received his medical degree at the University of Louisvile in Kentucky in 1882 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday (i.e., August 14, 1943) at the Hutchins Christian Church. Rev. Hugh Baker will officiate and burial will be in the Hutchins Cemetery.

He is survived by two sons, Col. H.W.O. KINNARD (i.e., step-son Harry William Osborn KINNARD, Sr., the son of his wife's 1st marriage to Kennedy S.M. KINNARD) , West Lafayette, IN; and J.F. KINNARD (i.e., step-son Jesse Franklin KINNARD), Dallas; one daughter, Mrs. W.A. McDANIEL (i.e., step-daughter Zula May (KINNARD) MILLER (Mrs. Wayne Arthur) McDANIEL), Memphis, TN; a sister, Mrs. Maude HARLAN (i.e., Maude (GRAVES) (Mrs. Zill Isaiah) HARLAN), Marlin (Texas); and a brother, Benjamin GRAVES (i.e., Benjamin Bruce GRAVES), Fort Worth.

Notes from Maintainer of this Memorial GERALD MILLER, the half-great, grandson of Dr. Richard Watson GRAVES:

NOTE 1: The following are the Find-A-Grave Memorials I've been able to find on the individuals listed above: Harry William Osborne KINNARD, Sr., #47855229; Jesse Franklin KINNARD, #68234475; Zula May (KINNARD) MILLER McDANIEL, #105966781; Maude (GRAVES) HARLAN, #21354073; Zill Isaiah HARLAN, #21353857; and Benjamin Bruce GRAVES, #41444333.

NOTE 2: Richard Watson GRAVES was my step-great, grandfather. He married Margurite Luella (POLLY) KINNARD, the widow of my biological great, grandfather Kennedy S.M. KINNARD. Richard's step-daughter Zula May (KINNARD) MILLER McDANIEL was my grandmother from her first marriage to Fountain Fox MILLER II.

NOTE 3: I have a copy of this obituary which is a newspaper clipping presumably from a Dallas newspaper. It is not dated, but I assume that it appeared in the paper on Friday August 13, 1943. The only hint as to what paper it appeared in is the following partial statement which shows immediately above the header for the obit. It reads: "Herald Has More City Circulat."
