A memorial service to celebrate the life of Thomas Lee Munyon, 75, of North Bend, will be held on Saturday, May 23, at 2 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, 63060 Millington Frontage Road in Coos Bay, with Pastor Michael J. Barnard of Shoreline Community Church presiding. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, from 1-5 p.m., at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Avenue. Private cremation rites will be held at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematorium in Coos Bay.

Tom was born on Feb. 27, 1940, in Alva, Okla., to Thomas Samuel Munyon and Ruth Amelia (Smith) Munyon. He passed away on May 18, 2015, due to complications of a stroke at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Wash.

Tom moved to Oregon with his family and lived in Glendale, Ore., and graduated from Glendale High School, class of 1958. He married Henryetta Sears, on Dec. 24, 1959. Then, in 1960, he started work at Weyerhaeuser where he stayed for 38 years. Later he married Mary Lou Smith on Oct. 5, 1976. After retiring he drove a school bus for Coos Bay school district for eight years. He lived in Coos Bay for 55 years.

Tom loved to hunt and fish and watch college football, especially the Oregon Ducks. He also helped out with the Miss Coos County pageant numerous years with his wife Mary Lou. Furthermore, he was a member of the Eagles Lodge where he enjoyed many friendships. He loved to grab some Kentucky fried chicken and go out to the beach to enjoy it. Saturday mornings were spent going to garage sales and watching football or westerns on TV. Tom had a sweet tooth and loved cookies and pies. He never shied away from hard work, he would work 16 hours a day to provide for his family. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Tom was married to Henryetta Sears for 15 years, and the late Mary Lou Munyon for 35 years, and was a father to eight children; Ron Munyon of Spokane, Wash.; Debbie Gray and her husband Steve of Coos Bay; Tom Munyon of Algona, Wash.; Mark Smith and his wife Janell of Flower Mound, Tex.; Mike Smith and his wife Melissa of Moro; Donna Hyman and her husband Glen of Colbert, Wash.; Dana Bergstrom and her husband Dave of Mead, Wash.; and Kyle Smith of Coos Bay.

In addition to his children and their spouses, Tom leaves behind 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Wade Munyon and his wife Paula of Roseburg, as well as many nieces and nephews.
