The visitation for Robert E. Monroe, 79,m will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a funeral service at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept 24 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Interment will be private.
Born June 18, 1928, in Chicago, he died Friday, Sept 21, 2007, at the University of Chicago Medical Center after a brief illness.
He attended Wheaton schools, graduating from Wheaton Community High School in 1946. He graduated from Drake University of Des Moines, Iowa.
Bob loved nature and the outdoors, spending much of his free time hunting and fishing He adored his grandchildren and found great pleasure in attending their various sporting events and other activities.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Carol) Monroe, Michelle (Tom) Gattas and Scott (Karle) Monroe; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Rutzen and Michael Monroe, Bryon and James Gattas, and Benjamin and Sam Monroe. He is also survived by his dear friend Barb, and her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Gertrude and his brother James Howard Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to James Howard Monroe Middle School, 1855 Manchester Road, Wheaton, IL 60186 for the Robert E Monroe Memorial Fund.
