Imogene 'Jean' Going Hammett was my Aunt Sis. She was my daddy's (Duel) baby sister and it was from her I received my middle name of 'Jean'. She was given the name of 'Sis' account she was the only girl with 3 big brothers who just happen to start referring to her as Sis.

She was born a twin in Manson, Randolph County, Arkansas on July 6, 1918 to Alonzo Stubblefield and Pearl Cathern Holt Going. She never knew her father, Alonzo, because she was only 2 months old when he died of TB. Her mother, Pearl, raised her and her brothers in Oklahoma where they set up housekeeping after her fathers death.

She attended school in Luthur, Oklahoma where she included the sport of basketball. Aunt Sis was a tiny little girl, but you didn't get in her way when it came to basketball. She still proudly displays pictures in her home of her coach and basketball teammates.

Aunt Sis met A.C. Hammett in Odessa, Texas and they were married October 26, 1956. She graduated LVN school in 1963 and worked at MCH and High Plains Hospital in Amirillo, Texas. She was a member of Temple Baptisi Church and read her bible constantly. She loved her antiques and was an avid bowler. She won many trophies from the many bowling tournaments in all the different states she played.

Not only was Aunt Sis preceded in death by her parents, but her husband, A.C. Hammett; her brothers Duel G Going, Charles A. Going and her twin brother Alonzo S Going; and one granddaughter Beverly Jean Worthington (she got the 'Jean' middle name too).

Aunt Sis and Uncle A.C. had no children together, but she is survived by her only child, Geraldine 'Gerri' Briggs (John); stepdaughter Shirley Bonard (Sonny); 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held May 27, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Gardens where she was laid to rest by her sweetheart A.C. (Slim).

My Aunt Sis is and always will be truly missed.
