Florence Maud Cranston Carter was the daughter of Jennie Elizabeth Fulton Cranston and William Wallace Cranston, Civil War veteran and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. She was married to Alvah Lawrence Carter. She died in San Bernardino, California.

Florence was the mother of Jean Cranston Carter (married to Mary Prewitt Atkinson Carter March), Ruth Carter, and Aleene Carter Thieme (married to Robert Bunger Thieme, Sr.).
