Milton Lufkin Caribou 93. A former resident of Caribou, died 3-23-1975 at a Houlton nursing home. He was born in Caribou 1-18-1882 the son of Henry Horace and Celestia Gowen Collins Lufkin. He was a graduate of CHS, class of 1900 and was a school teacher for several years in Aroostook until he turned to farming. His first wife, Mary Eva Barnes, who predeceased him, was the mother of his only child. Later he married Isabelle Colman Smith and in 1917 the family moved to Canada where he continued farming. After his wife's death he returned to the US in 1940 and worked at the Portland shipyards during WWII. Later he was employed by Porteous Mitchell and Braun of Portland, where he made many friends. In 1945 he married Mary Elliott Powell and resided in South Windham for 23 years. After Mary's death he traveled extensively, spending 3 winters in Santa Paula, CAL. His last years were spent in Maine where he was a patient at Bennett's Nursing Home in South Windham and more recently at the Maple Grove Nursing Home in Houlton. He was a prolific writer and author of "Maine's Musings" a column carried for several years in the Portland Press Herald Telegram. Later he wrote a local travel column "Let's Take a Drive". He wrote a series of travelogues for the Lewiston Journal. The Aroostook Replubican published his "Boys in Blue" and "Who Remembers" column. His chief literary efforts were his fathers life story (Henry) which has considerable historic value as an account of pioneer days in Aroostook County. A Mason for many years, he was a life member of the Presumscot Lodge, AF & AM, North Windham. He was also a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. He is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. George (Ida) Bradshaw of Oromocto, NB., Canada, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Burial Evergreen cemetery.
