Drowned in the Ottawa River near Kettle Island during a skating party put on by the Governor General. A 28 year-old Journalist named Henry Albert Harper, who was born in Barrie, dove in to try to save her and drowned as well. He is commemorated by a statue on Parliament Hill to Sir Galahad.
