Daughter of Maurice and Helen (Abbott) Hellwig.
A tennis player in her youth, she won the 1894 U.S. National Championships singles title defeating reigning champion Aline Terry. With Juliette Atkinson she won the 1894 and 1895 doubles title.

Mother of Helen Pouch, who died at the age of 18 in 1919.
She was the President General of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution from 1941-1944.
