Alexandra (Melzar) Briggs, 59 died unexpectedly at home in Winchester, MA on April 19, 2014, with her husband, Alan, at her side.

Life:
Known to family & friends as "Sandy", she was born on January 10, 1955 at Winchester Hospital, and lived first in Wilmington, MA before moving to Boxford in 1960.
She attended grade school in Boxford, then Masconomet Regional HS, was a member of the National Honor Society and was graduated in 1973.
Always one to help people, Sandy became a nurse after graduating from Mass General School of Nursing in 1975.
She worked at Mass General, Children's, and Brigham & Women's hospitals. At the same time, she wanted to further her education. She attended (then) Salem State College and earned a double masters in nursing and in business administration. It was there she met her husband, Alan Kendall Briggs.
They were married in 1990.
In 1993, she became the proud mother of Alison Kendall Briggs. A long-time sufferer of MS, she was unable to continue nursing, and devoted herself to raising her daughter. Although cause of death is still undetermined, she had recent medical setbacks.

Family:
Along with her husband and daughter of Winchester, she is survived by her mother, Jean (Jolly) Melzar of Boxford,
sisters, Victoria Maxwell (& John) of Bedford, NH, Frederica Gieda (& Eugene) of Killingly, CT, Jocelyn Schramm (& Scott) of Groton, CT,
brothers, Steven P. of Boxford, and Jonathan P. (Christina) of Sterling, MA.
Sandy was predeceased in 1989 by her father, Frederic P. Melzar.
Surviving also are a niece, nephews, step-children & step-grandchildren.

Interment in the Boxford Village Cemetery is private.
