Lucy E. Cantrell was the daughter of William Watson "Watt" Cantrell and Nancy Paulina McWhirter. She was born February 9, 1876 in DeKalb Co., TN and died March 20, 1948, in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., TN. She married Leroy "Green" Cope, son of William M. and Sarah Jane "Sallie" Magness Cope on April 15, 1896, in DeKalb Co., TN. One son was Harris Alexander Cope, born July 20, 1900 in Smithville, DeKalb Co., TN and died June 4, 1969, in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. One son was Jesse Watson Cantrell b. 10 June 1908 in Nashville, Tn. married Arlene M. Maulbetsch, 1914-1993 both are buried in Ann Arbor Michigan. One son Williams Jennings Bryant Cope was born in DeKalb county, Tn. 26 March 1898 and died young in Nashville, Tn. 5 Feb. 1909 no grave has been found for him or his father Leroy Green Cope. Lucy married after the death of Leroy to Chester Washington Merkle in Alabama.
