She was the wife of the late Walter Jackson; mother of Walter B. Jackson (Eleanor); sister of Eva J. Dilligard, Mary J. Smith (Isaiah) and Martha Drayton.

The 87 year old was a longtime Mother Emanuel AME Church member in Charleston, SC. She was also a member of the church choir and a member of the church's usher board. She lived in an old single house within walking distance of her church. She attended Buist Elementary School and Burke High School and worked as a beautician and home health care provider. She was always thinking of others. She was a Burke High School graduate. She was fond of playing slot machines, was scheduled to go on a church-sponsored bus trip to Chicago on Sunday and was looking forward to going to the top of the Willis Tower. She and Ethel Lance were cousins. She had recently visited her son and grandchildren in Cleveland, Ohio. Tim Jackson remembered his grandmother as a loving, giving woman with a great smile.

A wake was held from 5 to 6 PM on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Mother Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC. A funeral service was held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Mother Emanuel AME Church.

NOTE: She was killed during the mass shooting at Bible Study session at Mother Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC. It happened during a prayer meeting being held at the church on Wednesday night, June 17, 2015 approximately 9 PM. She was a cousin of Ethel Lee Lance, also killed during the shooting.
