His family name appears twice on the Magna Carta (but no relationship or descendancy indicated) . The original city engineer and a leader in civil, financial, political affairs of early Summit, NJ. Newark Academy graduate and BSCE from Lafayette College as Valedictorian. Designed sewer systems for Summit and communities from CT to DE. Helped create the Mountain Electric Co. & Commonwealth Water & Light, Co. in Summit. Built the old Post Office, the Central Building on Springfield and Beechwood, the building adjacent to the south and what’s currently known as the Bassett Building on Springfield Ave. Principal organizer the local Red Cross Chapter and the Canoe Brook Country Club. Owned a trolley company that served Summit and surrounding communities, and developed the Druid Hill section of Summit. His 27 room estate is the current location of the Beacon Hill Club in Summit.
