Geraldine E. May was the last of twelve children born to Thomas Walton May and Ellen Vandora Wonders.

She married Clifford Milton Reed on November 28, 1928 in Newton, Kansas. They were the parents of two sons and one daughter. It is said that Aunt Gerry was very good at reading a person's fortune with a deck of cards. Gerry credited her mother with teaching her the psychic skills such as reading cards and stopping pain.
