He died in St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.

He was born on 10/19/1918 in Bombay, son of Ernest and Elizabeth Kirkey Durant.

He married Pauline Bashaw on 2/5/1940 at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence. She died on 1/24/1985.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 79.

He owned and operated a dairy farm for more than 38 years, retiring in 1983.

Surviving were two sons, Gary (Ann) and Lawrence; eight daughters, Mrs. Jay (Judith) Shultis, Mrs. Joseph (Carol) Farrell, Mrs. William (Nancy) Scott, Mrs. James (Kathy) Engstrom, Susan Vickers, Mrs. Timothy (Cindy) Gabri, Mrs. Mohamed (Karen) Sedhi and Mrs. Thomas (Sally) Vickers; a daughter-in-law, Rosa Durant, Massena; two brothers, Hubert and Donald, both of Bombay; three sisters and two brothers-in-law; 32 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Paulette Newberry; two sons, Charles and John; six brothers, Lloyd, James, Ralph, Bernard, Howard and Harold, and four sisters, Odena Flynn, Irene Sanborn and Marion and Mary Durant, died before him.
