"This issue of The Index contains an obituary of a former Cobleskill boy, Charles S. Van Schaick, who went out from his native town and home years ago and made good. His former neighbors and friends have followed his career with great interest and have taken pleasure in his success. His untimely death is deeply regretted by those who knew him coming at a time when his services were needed and appreciated by the Mercantile Agency in which he was employed, the community in which he lived and his immediate family, consisting of wife and seven year old daughter. Mr. Van Schaick also leaves four brothers and one sister to mourn his loss. He was a member of a family that has been held together by the strong ties of love and devotion. The frequent pilgrimages of the family to Cobleskill, their former home, shows 'how dear to their hearts are the scenes of their childhood.' Cobleskill is a green spot in their memory, an oasis in the desert, a center about which their fondest recollections cling. What tender associations are linked with it! What deep emotions it awakens! ..." ["The Cobleskill Index" (Cobleskill, NY), Jan. 12, 1928, Page 4]
