John Henry Alderson, 86, of Ravenswood, W.Va., died on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio.

He was born on April 22, 1925, in Summersville, W.Va., to the late Roy C. Alderson and Hattie Hutchinson Alderson.

John retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood. He was a member of the Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg, the Scottish Rite of Charleston, W.Va., Order of the Eastern Star of Ravenswood, and a 50 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge #76 of Summersville.

John was a World War II Army veteran. He served in the past as Councilman and Mayor of Ravenswood, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenswood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bailey Alderson; son, John H. Alderson II, and his four sisters, Nancy Alderson, Betty Jo (Emil) Jurak, Peggy Alderson, and Dorthea (Jack) Bickerstaff.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Gordon Parker of New Haven, W.Va.; grandchildren, Laura and Robert Brinker of Letart, W.Va., and Kat Parker of Huntington, W.Va.; great-grandchildren, Mary Claire and Kane Brinker of Letart, W.Va.; a host of nieces, nephews and friends, and one cousin, Jane Hutchinson McCormick of Winter Spring, Fla.

Services will be held on Monday, April 16, at 10 a.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Pastor Annette Carper officiating. Burial will follow at Walker Memorial Park in Summersville, W.Va., at 3 p.m. with full graveside military rites and Masonic Rites.

Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, on Sunday, April 15, from 5-8 p.m.
