Matilda was the daughter of James William Terman and Martha Parthenia Cutsinger.

Siblings included: Jane Ann Terman Vaught (1855-1880), Mary E. Terman Ritchie(1857-1918), Emma "Alice" Terman McCartney (1861-1945), Flora Ellen Terman Coons (1863-1939), John William Terman (1865-1959), Joseph Edwin Terman (1867-1964), Omar Terman (1869-1871), James Albert Terman (1871-1871), Ida May Terman Stevens (1872-1926), Sarah Terman (1874-1881), Lewis Madison Terman PhD (1877-1956), Bertha Terman McAlpin (1881-1957); and Jesse Blanche Terman Roth (1883-1959).

On 28 December 1876, she married James Jackson Alexander in Johnson County, Indiana. From this union, three sons were born: Fred Oren Alexander, Byron Alexander, and Joseph Terman Alexander.

Shelbyville Woman Formerly Resided Near Greenwood

Greenwood, March 25. -- Word was received here early Friday morning of the death in Shelbyville of Mrs. Matilda Terman Alexander, who died at her home in that city following a long illness.

Mrs. Alexander was reared in the vicinity of Greenwood and is well known in this community, where she has many friends.

She has three sisters and three brothers surviving. They are Mrs. James Roth, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Alice McCartney, of Greenwood; Prof. Lewis Terman, of Palo Alto, Cal.; Joseph Terman of Whiteland, and John Terman, of Greenwood. Several children also survive.
