Jean Wilson Shell, age 90, died July 6, 2006 at her daughter's home in Chadds Ford, PA. Jean was born May 28, 1916, in Roseburg (Sanilac County), Michigan, the daughter of the late Frank and Hattie (Donnenworth) Wilson.
Jean attended the Roseburg and Red Schools , both located in Fremont Township.
Jean and James L. Shell of Amadore, Michigan, were married on June 11, 1937 at the Methodist Church parsonage in Lexington, MI by the Rev. W.L. Jones. Jim died March 6, 2000, breaking a marital union of nearly 63 years. Over the course of their marriage, they lived in Detroit, East Detroit, and Troy, Michigan and in Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania. Jean worked at The Beanery in Yale, MI; J.L. Hudson's in Detroit; the Rose Villa Nursing Home in East Detroit; and at the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford. Her most important role in life was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by three children: Gareth Ross (Helen) Shell of rural Yale, Michigan; Ronald George of Highland, Michigan and Paticia Jean (Gregory) Geaman of Chadds Ford, PA. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jim (Kim) Shell of Fort Gratiot, MI; Kimberly Shell of Chicago, IL; Larry (Jennifer) Shell of W. Bloomfield, MI and Emily and Wilson Geaman of Chadds Ford; and five great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by three brothers: Russell and Frank Wilson of Yale and William Wilson of Fort Gratiot and two sisters: Helen Brown of Yale and Donna Taylor of Melvin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Shell, a daughter-in-law, Laura Rains Shell, a brother, Howard Wilson, and two sisters, Pauline Noble and Maribelle Reid.
Jean's life was honored and memorialized by family and friends on July 23, 2006 at the Fore Lakes Golf Club; Kimball, Michigan. Burial took place at Fremont Cemetery in Sanilac County, Michigan.
