Father of the Bronte Sisters. Born in Ireland and eduated at St. John's College. He was ordained into the Church of England in 1807 and took up a number of curacies. He married Marie Branwell and had five daughters and a son. Two daughters died very young. He campaigned strongly for improved education in the district and in 1849 for improvements in the water supply. A change in education and bad sanitation for local people was seen in his time. In October 1859 he preached his last sermon from the pulpit of Haworth Church. He outlived all his children
