SOPHIEA, Lawrence L. "Doc" Sophiea, Ed.D. age 92 of Pleasant Ridge, passed away on August 12, 2015. He was born on October 5, 1922 in New York City.
He was the beloved husband of the late Betty Sophiea for 66 years; Loving father of Gary, Michael (Mori), and the late Sherrill; Proud grandfather of Katharine Jeffrey (Scott), Kristin Royal (Eric), Alan, Karianne, and Austin; Great-grandfather of Isabel, Quinn, and Eric Jaden (EJ); and Dear friend of Marianne Corrigan. Preceded in death by eight brothers. Doc served his country in the US Army during World War II and then became an educator in the Ferndale Public Schools for 35 years, including a long tenure as the principal of Best Junior High until his retirement in 1991. He will be remembered most for his deep and abiding belief in the power and importance of family above all else.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 2-9 p.m. with Trisagion at 8:30 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy (Between Maple and Big Beaver), 248-362-2500. The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, August 15 - 11 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2160 E. Maple Rd., Troy.
