THE MURULLA RAILWAY DISASTER
Twenty-seven people lost their lives and 42 injured as a result of a midnight train collision in the Upper Hunter Valley on Sept. 13, 1926 near Murrurundi, New South Wales. Breaking away from a goods train at Murulla, four cars laden with wool dashed backwards down a gradient and crashed into the oncoming north-west mail train from Moree to Sydney. Many of the passengers were children returning to school from holiday. Sometimes referred to as the Blandford railway accident, as the crash occurred before the community of Brandford,in an area bordered by both Brandford and Murulla districts.

Son of Samuel Dunbar and Elizabeth (Parsons) Dunbar.

Married Bertha Bennett on Dec. 3, 1884 in Scone, New South Wales.

Father of Clara (Dunbar) Gossip, John Dunbar, Henry George Dunbar, Edward Samuel Dunbar, Margaret Doris Dunbar, Dorothy Dunbar, and Donald Dunbar.

MR. JOHN DUNBAR.
The one topic of conversation in town to-day, was the calamitous train accident, the scene of which has been visited by a large number of townspeople. It has been brought home to Scone, in that one of our oldest and best known citizens, Mr. John Dunbar, lost his life. Mr. Dunbar, who was a native of Scone, was visiting a son in Quirindi, and was returning by the ill-fated train.
Of our old townsman, further reference will be made in next issue. The funeral will leave his late residence, Park-street, Scone, to-morrow (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. Members of tbe M.U.I.O.O.F., of which the deceased had been long associated, are asked to bear this fact in mind. The Order will be pleased for offers from car owners to carry members to and from the cemetery.
