Gene was the third of five children born to Hugh Monroe and Beulah Lea (Cress) Moose. He married Mary Lee Earnhardt in 1958 and they were the parents of three daughters: Ruth Ann, Sarah and Janet Lee.

MT. PLEASANT - Gene "Sam" Baxter Moose, 80, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009. He had been a resident of Autumn Care in Salisbury since March and had been in declining health for some time.
Born in Cabarrus County on Nov. 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Hugh Monroe and Beulah Cress Moose.
Mr. Moose worked for Tuscarora Yarns of Mt. Pleasant and Linn Mills of Landis for 45 years and farmed all of his life. He was a member of Rock Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Lee Earnhardt Moose; and brother, John Ira Moose.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth M. Boger of the home, Mrs. Dale (Sarah) Galloway of Pasco, Wash., and Mrs. Ricky (Janet) Cook of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) Kindley of Concord, Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Carter of Monroe and Mrs. Billy (Hazel) McCoy of Stanley; five grandchildren, Jeremy Scercy, Benjamin Galloway, Brittney Galloway, Ricky Cook, Jr. and Rebecca Galloway.
Service and Burial: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Grove United Methodist Church of Salisbury. Pastor Randy Lucas, Pastor Maurice Staley and Gene's nephew, Pastor Steve Holshouser officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant and at other times at his home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to his church or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC.
