HISLE Betty Jean Cundiff, (b. February 4, 1930) of Lexington departed this life on February 8, 2015, with her husband, Wendell Leon Hisle, at her side.

Born to William Ralph and Doll E. Wilkerson Cundiff in Liberty, she graduated from the Ward-Belmont School in Nashville, TN, and attended Centre College in Danville, where she met her husband of 65 years. In addition to raising four children, she taught at Eastern Kentucky University, Union College in Barbourville, Bell County High School, St. Francis - School in Louisville, and founded the Tabuk International School in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Betty Jean had a spirited personality and nary a shy bone in her body. She could engage a stranger in conversation and win over a new friend in minutes. Nicknamed "Bubbles" in her youth, she had a twinkle in her eye, a bright smile and contagious good humor. She was a superb entertainer, Bridge player and cook. Her cream pies were perfection.

A life-long educator, Betty Jean loved to share a good book, news article and New Yorker cartoon. She was a tremendous supporter of the arts and culture. She served as a docent at the Huntington, WV, Museum of Art, the Art Museum at the University of Kentucky, and the Kentucky Horse Park.

One could not have picked a better, if unofficial, ambassador for Kentucky abroad. She personally led tours to major U.S. cities and Europe for friends and many of her beloved students.

For two years, Betty Jean and Leon lived in Saudi Arabia They spent many winters in Ocala, FL.

Everywhere she called home, Betty Jean always had friends due to her thoughtfulness, sharp wit, and warm laugh.
