Our loving mother Rose M. Mahaffay, age 103-1/2 of Palmetto, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 9, 2015. She was born Rose Mary Wisniewski January 14, 1912 in West Pullman (Chicago) to John and Helena (Romanov) Wisniewski, one of eight children. She lived and attended school in East Hazel Crest. While working at Libby's Canning factory she met Albert W. Mahaffay, the Mahaffay family being one of the founding families of Palos Park. They were united in marriage on September 11, 1937 in Palos and moved to Los Angeles, CA where Albert was on a football scholarship at USC. They raised three children in Montebello, CA schools where Albert was a teacher and coach, and Rose worked various jobs in the food industry. In retirement, they moved to Palm Springs, where Rose worked and managed the Tea House on the 9th hole at La Quinta Golf and Country Club in Rancho Mirage for years. She retired at age 82. Rose's travels took her to Eastern and Western Europe in 1963, and in retirement, she traveled with her cousin who has since passed on, Marge Kredens of Crestwood, to college campuses across the Midwest, taking various classes. At 88 years old, she moved to St. Bonifacius, MN to live with her daughter Phyllis and son-in-law Al Torres. In 2004, they moved to Florida where she lived out the rest of her life. She was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America, an excellent cook, and enjoyed canning and baking. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, her parents, and all seven of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her three children, daughter Phyllis and husband Al Torres of Palmetto, Fl, daughter Patricia and husband Randal Blasius of Bigfork, MT, and son John Mahaffay of Whittier, CA. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Interment Rose Hill Cemetery in Whittler, CA where she was laid to rest next to her husband Albert. We were blessed to have her for so many years.
