Mike Carey was the second child of Dick and Nancy (Fisher) Carey, Cherokee Nation citizens who were both listed on the Final Dawes Roll. While a teenager, Mike's father was killed by a hit and run driver and Mike, along with his brother, Aaron, helped their mother support the family of 9 children.
Mike served with the US Army during WWII. He died from complications that came on after surgery a few months after his 50th birthday. He is buried in the Fisher Cemetery between his brothers, Reed and Donald Ray.
