John is son of Samuel Gibson and Rebecca Cox both born in Maryland according to his death certificate, retired from hotel business, Luther Gibson informant.

However....Samuel Gibson married Lydia Chapman, in 1830 Morgan County, Ohio. Lydia married James Mitchell, June 18, 1835 and appears on the 1850 census, Olive, Morgan, Ohio, with farmer James Mitchell and her son John M. Gibson and 5 Mitchell children and Nancy Chapman 31.
Lydia Chapman's parents are Parley Chapman born Massachusetts and Mary Polly Ogle born Ireland and who died in 1837. John's step father James Mitchell died in 1888, memorial 74225431. No death record found for his mother Lydia, however she is not listed on the 1870 census with James. She may be buried with him in South Olive Cemetery.

John M. Gibson married Eliza Gebhart, Sept 20, 1859, Noble County, Ohio.

Their son Samuel N. Gibson, born 1862 ohio, married Alice J. Craven, May 14, 1885, Tyler County, WV ,died 1931.

John registered for Civil War Draft in 1863, residing in Beaver, Noble, Ohio. He served in Company K ,4th Regiment, West Virginia Cavalry.

Eliza died in 1870 and their daughter Mary 9 was living with his parents Samuel and Elizabeth Gibson, Williamsburgh, Noble, Ohio.

John was a farmer and married Margaret Matilda Warner May 14, 1871, Tyler County, West Virginia.

In 1880, they were living in Ellsworth, Tyler County WV, with children from his first marriage Mary E 18, Samuel N 17, born OH, Ann M 13 born Illinois, and Margaret's daughter Clara Alice Dickey, plus three children of their own: Frank C., Ella Charity , Amy L.

Another son Luther was born in 1887 and he is listed as a hotel keeper on 1900 census, they had 6 children, 5 living.

daughter Charity Louella 'Ella' married David Evan Jones, January 14, 1908, Harrison County, WV. David was a boarder in her parents' hotel on 1900 census.
Ella died 1965.

daughter Ama/Amy Louvinia born Sept 14, 1879 Tyler WV -married Cecil Isaac Edgett, May 16, 1899.
