A graduate of Purdue University, he retired as Manager of Divisional Affairs, ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), Nebraska Section, in August of 2003. He received a Distinguished Service Award from ASME in 2003 and a Dedicated Service Award from ASME in 1994 and also served as History & Heritage Chairman, ASME. He was a mechanical engineer for the BSNF railroad.
