Naomi Jean Schneider (Barnhart), passed away 9:22pm, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She is the daughter of the late Thomas T. Barnhart and Phoebe Ann (Hayes) Barnhart. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandparents, six sisters and five brothers, her first husband Harold M. Shafer, and her second husband Lester W. Schneider. She was a graduate of the class of 1950 Marietta High School. During her school-age years she was a member of the Buckeye “Y” team.

In September of 1950, she became employed by Kresge Company on Putnam Street, later moving to New Jersey in 1953, where she worked for J. J. Newbury continuing in sales work. She returned to Marietta in 1955, working at Woolworths, and was later rehired by Kresge, working from 1963-82, until Kresge was bought out by the Kmart Corporation. She retired from Kmart in 1992 and enjoyed her residence on Lang Farm Road, where she enjoyed tending her garden, Flowers, and pets. She was raised in the Church of Christ, but joined St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in 1995 where she remained until her death. She was a very faithful churchgoer and had a deep love for God, of which she often spoke.

She is survived by several cousins, two nieces, two nephews, and loved by many, many friends. She was also very grateful and thankful for everyone that helped her in times of need, especially Wilma, Rita, and the members of St. Luke’s and Church of Christ. She requested that any memorial gifts be given to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the 6th and Washington Street Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Friday, September 18th at with Reverend Steve Mahaffey officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
