The youngest of the children of Robert Travis and Harriett Clark, Robert was professionally a farmer. He died from consumption, a disease he fought for a number of years. His father, siblings, wife, and children survived him. Because of his worsening health, Mr. Clark had decided to quit farming, and an auction was planned of his stock and equipment on what was the day chosen for his burial. As noted in the Marion Star, with his passing, his land and chattels passed into the estate preempting the planned sale.
Originally buried at Likens Cemetery, his grave was moved to Marion Cemetery on December 2, 1936, and a new memorial stone was obtained later that replaced the marker from Likens.
