Clifford “Cliff” L. Reade, Jr., 67, of Brooten, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home – Brooten with visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Interment will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, October 2nd at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Cliff was born in Ames, Iowa on January 17, 1948 to Clifford and Lucille Reade, Sr. He grew up in Rockwell City, Iowa before joining the United States Army in 1968 and serviced his country honorably until 1976. He completed paratrooper training at Fort Bragg and became a member of the 82nd Airborne. He volunteered and served three tours in Vietnam and one in Europe in Vicenza, Italy.

His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him a Vietnam Service Medal. He also was awarded a Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

After he was discharged he worked a variety of jobs and was most proud of his work as a civil service employee for the State of Minnesota.

Cliff was an enrolled member of the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska. He was a member of the American Legion.

He was united in marriage to Mary (Smotherman) Reade in February, 1971 at Fort Riley Army Base, KS. On October 31, 2008 he was united in marriage to Julie (Helle) Reade at Mahnomen, MN.

Cliff is survived by his wife, Julie Reade, Brooten, MN; his daughter, Teresa (Greg) Bourne, Brisbane, Australia; son, Sean (Kim) Reade, Duson, LA; step-sons Jason (Micki) Lent, Burnsville, MN, and Eric (Kelly) Lent, Breckenridge, MN; step-daughter Nichole Beauchamp, Brooten, MN; step-sons, Clint Dykes, Scottsbluff, NE, Cody Dykes, Mankato, MN and Troy Dykes, New Ulm, MN; and step-daughters, Trinda Dawson, Minot, MN, Trina (Darren) Kaldig, Windom, MN and Tanya Gustafson, Windom, MN; sister, Sylva Hintz, Pomeroy, IA; grandchildren, Sophia Reade, James Mason, Samuel Mason, Casey Bourne, Alastair Bourne, Christian Reade, Morgan Reade, Drew Reade, Gunner Reade, Cassady Johnson-Lent, Sterling Beauchamp, Keilen Beauchamp, Gabriel Lent and Alexis Lent; 12 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandson, 2 step-great-children; niece Debra (Randy) Bachman, Pomeroy, IA, nephew Mark (Nancy) Plantz, Rockwell City, IA; 5 great-nieces and nephews and 17 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Cliff is preceded in death, in addition to his parents by his first wife Mary Reade.

Pallbearers will be Jason Lent, Eric Lent, Cassady Johnson-Lent, Tim Evenson, Herman TeBrake, Bruce Knutson, Gary Anderson, Clint Dykes and Cody Dykes.
